With plain red walls and a basic brick exterior, don’t judge a book by its cover at Kim’s Sushi. It also offers wood-fired dishes like chicken parmigiana and pork cacciatore. Here, diners clamor for simple pasta plates made with care, like pappardelle Bolognese, linguine with clams, meat and cheese ravioli, and rigatoni alla vodka. Pre-pandemic, in modest, hometown-feel Denville, diners regularly arrived at opening time just to get a spot in line at The Pasta Shop, a minimalist yet rustic Italian restaurant that saves the “wow” factor for its handmade pasta dishes. “This year’s list is the culmination of thousands of suggestions we received from the Yelp community, a list of favorite restaurants where we can’t wait to enjoy a meal with loved ones again,” Yelp said in the announcement. To no New Jersey foodie’s surprise, three Garden State eateries made the list: The Pasta Shop in Denville, Kim’s Sushi in West Orange, and Fresh Tiki Bar in Somerville. Last week, Yelp announced its list of the Top 100 Places to Eat in 2021 after asking its users to share their favorite restaurants that they can’t wait to return to.
